This is a followup letter regarding the Bertie Commissioners meeting in Bertie County last night 1-15-02.
It is our pleasure to tell everyone who is interested, and even those who are not! That not one person in an over filled Superior Court room thought the proposed superhornet site #20 was anything but abhorrent.
The County Commissioners, County Attorney, Town Council, Board of Edu., Fire Depts., Chamber of Commerce, Loggers, Perdue, local business owners, private citizens, as well as some Chowan and Hertford County citizens alike were all adamantly opposed to the superhornet site being located in Bertie County.
There will be a Bertie Co. link added to our Tribe's website to keep updated on this most serious situation.
It should be no suprise the US Navy, who knows full well the devastating effects Hurricane Floyd and the flood that followed caused Bertie and surrounding counties in NE NC, would not ask but just boldly state they were considering Bertie Co. for their landing site! A County most hardest hit and still struggling to regain it's footing even now three years later. And to try to take advantage of one of the poorest counties in eastern NC is beyond disgusting!
Not to mention how arrogant the US Government still is to think they have superiority over all the lands, are still using the same old Immiminent Domain better known as "manifest destiny" bull they used to steal this land from our forefathers with!!
Updates as they come. Also the Roanoke Chowan News Herald and Bertie Ledger will be placing letters in their newspapers! It will take every one to put a stop to this and future Governmental takeovers.
To contact the News Herald email Allison Gupton
To contact the Bertie Ledger I apologize I didn't get the man's name at the meeting who receives the emails.
